My name is Danney Leon Gibbs Il, and I am the son of the late Danney Leon Gibbs I and
Sarah Lee Mouning Gibbs. I have one sister, P'Shaunda Gibbs Hopkins of Bridgeport, CT. I
was born November 7, 1972, in Bridgeport, CT, where I lived for 48 years before moving to
Richmond, VA, in 2020. My mother's family was from up north, and my father's family was
from the south. We would travel often growing up to many family functions and events
because my parents valued family.
I attended Blessed Sacrament Saint Mary's School in Bridgeport, CT, from kindergarten to
8th grade, and then graduated from Kolbe Cathedral High School, also in Bridgeport, CT, in
1990. I attended Housatonic Community College right out of high school for two years
before taking some time off to pursue my love for music as a musician, traveling throughout
the United States and playing for different artists and singers at various events ranging
from gospel, r&b, and jazz music.
In addition to traveling extensively, I worked for the Connecticut Law Tribune as an editor
for two years and for Yale New Haven Hospital for eight years. I was a musician and
Minister of Music for the Cathedral Of The Holy Spirit in Bridgeport, CT, for 20 years and also
served as Minister of Music for Pentecostal Churches of Jesus Christ (PCJC) under Bishop
Hezekiah Walker before moving to Richmond. I am now the musical director for First Baptist
Church of South Richmond and completing my music degree at Virginia Union University.
I am the proud father of 3 girls, Dannisha, Ashley, and Danielle, one son, Danney Ill, and
four grandchildren. All though we live in different states, I try to keep the family in touch
and see them as much as I can.
As a kid, my uncle, who was a preacher and singer, would attend church services where the
Masons would be present for the event that was going on at the church. I was always
intrigued by the order and presence they would have when I was around them. Then once I
found out that some family members I have high respect and regard for were masons, that
gave me more reason to pursue becoming one myself. Through much research, I learned of
the Carey Wheaton Lodge No. 307, which granted me the opportunity to become a Mason.
