My name is David Cole and it is my pleasure to share my background with you. I was born and raised in South Boston, VA, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Shirley Cole. I am the third of four biological children and a host of relatives and friends raised and nurtured by parents as they both have a love for community and family. That love of community and family is one of the many reasons that I feel that joining the brotherhood was a good idea for me.
I was educated in the public schools of Halifax County VA, graduating from Halifax County High School in 1992. I went on to college starting at Hampton University in that same year. After a year I transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University where I received a bachelor's degree in political science and a minors degree in African American Studies in 1998.
After that time I decided to remain in Richmond VA where I was married and had three children, Khadejia, Khya and Davion, all of which have become adults and I have two grandchildren from Khadejia. I have since remarried and now am married to Fayesha Cole and have to bonus children Melody and Levi.
Once finishing with college, I began my professional career in retail and landed with Lowes and have been with the company for 16 years. Through the love of music and my passion for the church, I spend a lot of time on two voluntary jobs of sound and media at my church and assistance with the Virginia Union University band programs. The love of both affords me the opportunity to meet and assist in the love of serving, community and people.
These, along with the love of family and the desire to become a better man not just for me but for my family and especially my sons, are reasons why I was interested in becoming a Prince Hall Mason. I have family in the fraternity of brotherhood and after seeing how they have become better men, sparked an interest in me that has grown over the years. I decided to seek more knowledge for myself and am happy with the journey thus far and looking forward to more light in masonry.
The reason I decided to pursue joining Carey Wheaton Lodge #307 was because I was approached by a fellow aspirant at the time, James McCreary, who asked if I had ever been interested and we exchanged our reasons for joining and found that our journey would be better taken together. I then reached out to two of my good friends that I felt would be a great addition to our journey, Chris Miller and Michael Crane, whom I knew had also expressed interest and asked them to join with us in our walk. I knew that Brother Corey was a mason because we grew up together since grade school, but I did not know which lodge, however when James asked if i knew Corey and expressed his interest in joining the same lodge as Corey, I knew at that point Carey Wheaton #307 was the choice for me to turn friendship into brotherhood.
